Multi-tasking Fridges

Geeky Appliances

So any more these days everything/one is required to do more than one job. Now appliances are being brought into the overworked/underpaid world and it might mean good things for us. First there's the Whirlpool Espresso refrigerator.

This Espresso coffee maker integrated into your side by side fridge freezer is not only perfect for the coffee pod system, but can also dispense hot water for other beverages. The A+ energy rated Espresso refrigerator comes in easy to clean finger proof stainless steel finish, with contoured doors, vacation mode and child lockable controls. It does not need to be defrosted and has Microban filter ensuring total anti-bacterial protection throughout the fridge. The super premium side by side Whirlpool Espresso refrigerator with 20 cu. ft. capacity will be available sometime in January of 2008.

It doesn't include a steam wand and I'm not sure if it'll get the water up to the correct temperature/pressure, so I'm not sure this would replace your real espresso maker, but I applaud the effort. It also includes a child proofing system, which would seem to be a good idea in a world where kids are getting larger by the minute.

beer%20fridge.jpg The second is the HomePub combined beer tap / fridge / freezer. It holds a five litre minikeg in the door and has a bay for a second on the shelf. Here are the specs:

  • Fridge compartment: 218 litre net capacity. (7.7 cu. feet)
  • Freezer compartment: 83 litre net capacity (3 cu. feet).
  • Adjustable glass shelves.
  • Transparent freezer drawers.
  • Easy ColdĀ®, electronic thermostat with eco function, 2 compressors, 2 temperature settings.
  • A+ energy rating.
  • Built-in wheels enable easy manoeuvrability.
  • Size 185x60x60 cm. (72x24x24in)

This one's not available to us quite yet, but it will be. Of course it might make your beer too cold, but for most Yanks it can't be too cold.
